WHAT IS UNLOC AND HOW DOES IT WORK?
Creating oxidative conditions in soil is an important factor in overall soil health and crop potential. Soil organic matter content is considered one of the most important indicators of soil health. Increasing organic matter can lead to improved water infiltration, aggregate stability and hydraulic conductivity.
UNLOC soil stimulant is a proprietary blend of nutrients that are the key to unlocking your soil’s potential. The specially formulated and patented combination is designed to deliver sources of biologically available oxidants to soil microbes in a form that can be readily metabolized. As a result, the soil microbial population can increase exponentially. Within a short period of time, the resulting increase in soil microbial life can lead to improved soil texture, mineralization and organic matter content.
UNLOC is intended as a supplement to a regular fertilization and irrigation program in order to enhance soil microbial life and plant nutrient uptake.

EFFECTS OF UNLOC 500 ON SOIL

Soils are made of negatively charged colloides (very fine particles). In compacted soils, these fine particles have bonded with the positively charged hydrogen element of water. The compacted zone obstructs applied water from moving into the soil.
The components in UNLOC are soil amending agents which effect changes in the surface tension of hydroscopic water in soil. The chemigation or spray application of UNLOC to soil frees the hydrogen bond and releases the colloidal particles to move and create microspores. This dynamic process is synergized by gravity and moves water into the soil profile. The unique ingredients of UNLOC 500 catalyzes soil and plant metabolism at the root zone, which enhances aeration, fertilizer and water use efficiency.
EFFECTS OF UNLOC 500 ON PLANTS

Behind the hard tip of a root is the soft white part of the root that is clothed in minute hair roots composed of a single cell and almost invisible to the naked eye.2 Although water can be absorbed by older parts of the roots it is these minute hair roots that absorb most of the water and more importantly the nutrients that the plant need due to their large combined surface area. Root hair production is stimulated by moisture and oxygen. The absorption of water takes place by osmosis.
Oxygen is vitally important in the growth of hair roots which is why we are getting such good root growth with the application of UNLOC and hence plant growth.
EFFECTS OF UNLOC 500 ON SOIL MICROBIOLOGY

UNLOC greatly increases the number of beneficial bacteria and fungi, such as V.A.M (A fungi which a forms a symbiotic relationship with many plants increasing their ability to obtain nutrients) in the soil as it provides massive amounts of oxygen and nutrients for them to use.
The fungi diameter is greater in UNLOC treated soil and everything is more active. This helps to explain the improved drainage (bigger hyphie diameter means more porous soil).

UNLOC’s proprietary blend of ingredients conditions soil, creating the perfect environment for the soil microbiology to thrive in.
Nitrate blend
The product contains a specially formulated blend of calcium nitrate, potassium nitrate and ammonium nitrate. Each of these compounds forms a nitrate ion, which provides an oxidant source for aerobic bacteria. When oxygen levels are very low, such as in compacted soil, normally aerobic bacteria and facultative bacteria can get their oxidant from nitrate. This is not necessarily the addition of oxygen. Instead, the oxidation process requires that for the sulfide ion to be “oxidized”, an ion must be present to “accept” the electron lost by the sulfide ion. Therefore the nitrate ions serve as an electron acceptor in the oxidation pathway of aerobic and facultative bacteria in an anaerobic environment.
Calcium
The calcium ion, when added to typically high sulfide wastewater, will precipitate out calcium sulfate which lowers the concentration of the sulfate ion and deprives anaerobic bacteria of their oxidant source. Combined with the addition of the nutrient source for oxidation of facultative and aerobic bacteria, this compound plays an important role in ensuring that the aerobic bacteria out-compete the anaerobic bacteria. Calcium is also a source of nutrition for cell development in bacteria.
Ammonium
The ammonium ion is an important building block for cell nutrition and growth. It contributes to the rapid growth of the microbial population and can also function as an electron donor in the respiratory path of aerobic bacteria.
Potassium
Potassium is a key building block for cell nutrition and growth. The potassium ion is an integral part of the unique formulation that provides for the overall health of the aerobic bacteria.
Carbon source
Microorganisms such as bacteria require a carbon source for protein synthesis. UNLOC’s proprietary formula provides a source of dissolved nutrients for the facultative and aerobic bacteria that use nitrate as their respiratory oxidant. This effectively stimulates the rapid growth of the desired aerobic bacteria.
SOIL MICROBES

Soil microbes are the most abundant cells in the soil. They can occur singly or join together in groups. Soil microbes are responsible for the decomposition of residues. They secrete enzymes that break down molecules such ass sugars and starches into basic chemical components like carbon and nitrogen, which the bacteria can use for energy. If the nutrients are not needed by the bacteria then they are released into the soil and become available for plant uptake.
All life in the soil interacts together into what is termed the soil food web. Organic matter is the initial primary food source for the bacteria, fungi, actinomycetes and nematodes in the soil which then release nutrients for plant uptake. Then they themselves are fed upon by larger soil organisms such as arthropods, earthworms and so on.

- Mineralization and recycling of nutrients.
- Creation of pore space for water infiltration.
- Detoxification of pollutants.
- Maintenance of soil structure and layers.

- Biological suppression of plant pests.

SOIL HEALTH

Soil health is defined as “the capacity of the soil to function within ecosystem boundaries to sustain biological productivity, maintain environmental health, and promote plant and animal health”1. Properties that determine soil health which are influenced by soil microbes include water-holding capacity, soil organic matter and microbial biomass. Life in the soil is dependant upon water, oxygen and organic matter content.
Water is the medium that facilitates nutrient transport through the soil and enables plant nutrient uptake. Water also facilitates the movement of soil microbes such as nematodes and bacteria through the soil. Air is constantly moving throughout soil and provides the primary source of oxygen required for cell functioning in aerobic organisms. Both air and water occupy the pore spaces creted within and between soil aggregates to facilitate nutrient transport in soil layers.
Soil organic matter content is considered one of the most important indicators of soil health. Organic matter is any material that originated from living organisms. The substances in organic matter are quickly broken down by soil microbes which helps fuel the moicrobial population. Soil microbes help bind mineral particles together to form good soil aggregates. Increasing organic matter is one of the best methods to increase aggregate stability. Soil amendments that stimulate microbial activity can also improve aggregate stability and enable adequate air exchange and water drainage.

TESTS AND TRIALS
UNLOC has been proven in independent laboratory tests to greatly increase bacteria and fungal activity with significant beneficial effects on plants.
This product is currently being used for many different New Zealand & Australian horticultural applications including kiwi fruit farms and grass paddocks and has shown stunning growth and yield results.
APPLICATION
MIX RATIO: 1 PART CONCENTRATE TO A MINIMUM OF 200 PARTS WATER.
DOSAGE RATE: APPLY SO AS TO DOSE 1ml CONCENTRATE / SQUARE METER OR 10L CONCENTRATE / HECTARE. WATER IN WELL SO AS TO ENABLE UNLOC 500 TO REACH THE PLANTS ROOTS.
NOTE: Generally no more than 10L per hectare is required for excellent results. However, due to local variables such as soil type and initial condition results may vary. To obtain faster results or great results for exceptionally poor soils, more product can be used.
Maximum application of product is 30L per hectare!
